Frankfurter Feldbahn Museum
50th Anniversary Celebrations
(30th May - 1st June 2025)
Introduction

In 2025, the Frankfurter Feldbahn Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary and at the end of May they had a giant steam party to celebrate, The first day was a private affair which would allow around 50 selected enthusiasts loose to photograph some staged events without the general public present. James Waite attended and just how he managed to be there for a 06.45 start I will leave that to my readers to work out. Once a year, I am at the gate of the Welland steam rally in the UK by 07.30 and that is just 20 miles from home and not in a foreign country...

Click here for an introduction to narrow gauge German steam.

His report is in 3 parts.:

Resident Locomotives Part 1

Resident Locomotives Part 2

Visiting Locomotives

With well over 20 steam locomotives on site, getting photographic coverage of them all would be an impossible dream, quite a few residents are 'out of ticket' and not all of the active fleet were steamed for the event. For those contemplating a visit I have listed the entire roster with James' descriptions. In viewing the pictures bear in mind that the museum operates in a park and at one point it passes down a lane which is flanked by the German version of what we would call in the UK a set of 'allotments'. However, the Germans don't just grow vegetables as we tend to do in the UK, they have proper gardens with flowers and summer houses which greatly assists the photographer.

Here by way of an introduction are some scene setting pictures that don't fir in the main reports. The three locomotives in the first picture are 8, 14 and 10 in Hall 1 and the coach is one which was built for Bulgaria back in 1924. I believe the horse had not read the script properly and spent most of the afternoon trying to munch the lineside grass.
