Podmoskovnaya Depot, Moscow, 9th April and 13th June 2014

Harvey Smith was based in and around Moscow off and on from 1997 to 2014 and has now moved to St. Petersburg. Apart from this report he has also posted information on other attractions in Moscow and the rest of Russia, there are links at the bottom of the page.


Harvey Smith writes about his latest visits to Podmoskovnaya Depot, Moscow on 9th April and 13th June 2014, for his earlier visits which include more access information please use the 2010 - 2013 link above.

At 20.00 I saw:

Steam locomotives

  • L-3653 clearly being made ready for a morning run.

  • L-5248 - Operable
  • L-2344 - Operable
  • L-2331 - Operable and being used for a film set. It had a coach attached which had undergone cosmetic restoration

  • L-5231 - Out on the tracks and in Barry condition

  • LV-0522 - Out on the tracks and in Barry condition with shrubs

  • LV-0182 - under repair

  • TE-3162 - No nearer being repaired.

Other power:

  • Crane 429 - this appears to be the works crane

  • Crane 664 out on the tracks and part of a works train

  • TGK2-8551. This is a diesel shunter used by the works for moving locos. It dates from 1960 and is a museum piece in its own right.


Present at the depot on 9th April 2014::

Steam locomotives

  • LV-0283 in steam
  • LV-0182 tender only
  • L-5248 in reasonable condition
  • TE-3162 awaiting restoration
  • L-5231 awaiting restoration
  • LV-522 awaiting restoration
  • EM-728 65 awaiting restoration. This was once a bar at a Dacha outside St.Petersburg.. It is painted Green with flat top of steam and smoke dome

Rolling Stock

  • 3 1930s coaches painted green - unrestored
  • 1 1930s kitchen car painted blue- unrestored
  • 1930s/40s van

Other News:

A new coal bunker has been constructed and is full of coal.
