Weeting Steam Rally 2018 |
|
|
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Weeting 2018 index and click here for the overall index for 2018. This was again, quite simply, the best working area demonstration I have seen at a rally. Originally, I planned to take video (and stills) of the action on the Sunday but as we didn't attend, the record is sub-standard. There are more pictures from 2017 available. Unfortunately, in terms of photographic potential, the demonstrations operate in the middle of the day when the light is least favourable. Steam Ploughing Fowlers 15453 and 15454 were working one of the longest hauls I have seen at a rally, said to be about 600 yards. This was scheduled by me for covering on the Sunday and missing it was my biggest regret of our visit! The Farmyard Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies 31298, Burrell 1522, Burrell 2948 and Ruston Proctor 50278 were all working in the same enclosure. The first two are shown below.
Saw Benches There were several engines engaged. There was an unknown Marshall and Tuxford 1283 portables. Burrells 2425, 2921 and 4088 were also sawing while Burrell 3695 ferried in logs.
A long distance visitor was Advance 14921, to be honest I didn't recognise it as a canopy has recently been added.
Burrell 3695 was bringing logs for sawing while Burrells 3130, 3633 and 3923 gave demonstrations of 'heavy haulage' in the small arena. I was taking a much needed refreshment break during this and only caught the final action.
Stone Crushing and Road Making A number of engines were active in a single rather small enclosure which would greatly benefit from enlarging as such was the amount of equipment present that adequate photography was impossible, it wasn't just that I spent little time here!. Present were Allchin 1527, Burrell 2626 and Marshall portables 45028 and 71725, together with Garrett 33141 and Burrell roller 3994. The first picture shows 'best available' from the public area (there were belts from a portable in the way), the second the 'after hours' shot, the roller was at least well positioned!
