Here are a few remarks about the end of Jitong steam:
On Oct 14, they had only 20 QJ left as serviceable engines. 6878, 6988 and 7040 were withdrawn between Oct 4 and 9.
Diesel engines 9516, 9518 and 9030 are assigned Daban to Chabuga, but 6031 from a different brigade was also assigned this line during the last few days.
In conflict to Bernd Seilers info: A QJ may pull up to 3000 tons Daban to Chabuga. This happened with 7119 on Oct 12. Double traction is only needed above 3000 tons or if they need the engine on the other end of the line.
The new prolonged tracks in several stations should be opened some time in early November. They are already now running longest possible trains between Daban and Chabuga. This results in slow crossings, as the trains first stop and slowly pull into the staions untuil given the clear from the signalman at ther back of the train. With longer tracks the trainlength may increase, and they clear the switches faster.
The people digging the signal cable ditches in Gulumanhan were prisoners. Most of them on 3 to 4 years terms in Daban prison. Some for drunk driving.
For last minute travellers I can recommend the taxi driver living right outside Lindong station in the left hand side shop. He is level crossing guard at km 683 but also drives taxi. He is reliable, drives everywhere and gets you from the line if you call him. Phone number 139 4764 3956. I paid 100 Yuan for a trip Lindong - Gulumanhan including photo stop at Sha Li He bridge (km 665).
