The 29 class 2-8-2 built by North British were similar to the Nigerian 'River Class' and mainly worked in Kenya. In January 1968, 2921 'Masai of Kenya' was shed favourite at Mombasa undoubtedly owing to its emotive name. Collectively the 29, 30 and 31 class were known as 'Tribals' and carried appropriate names.
