Somerset Steam and Country Show 2014
The Road Run

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Somerset Steam and Country Show 2014 index and click here for the overall index for 2014.

One of the features of the show is the Friday road run which broadly head off down through Langport and down the A378 before cutting back through Stoke St. Gregory (Willow and Wetlands Centre) and Burrowbridge (King Alfred) and then Aller along the A378 back to Langport. We were told at the show site that traction engines tended to do a shorter route. It took a while to sort out what was going on as most of the vehicles involved were ic tractors of all sizes and ages, but we saw some fair action even if the photographic results were nothing special (and I was trying primarily to shoot video). All the engines shown hear are illustrated on the site. In fact, there were several more engines 'on the road' making their way to the site under their own steam, I later saw several arrive.
