Lincoln Steam Rally 2013 |

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Lincoln index and click here for the overall index. By working engines, I mean steam engines which did more than sit looking beautiful or amble round the main arena to have their pictures taken. We had just one day at this large show but fortunately the weather was kind. Like South Cerney on the old air field, Lincoln is held on a permanent show ground so steam ploughing is out of the question. A particular feature at Lincoln is the number of showman's engines which are used to generate electricity to power mechanical organs.
An appropriately dressed gang sawed up a large supply of medium sized trees...
Showman's Engines Several engines were at work in the fairground area with just the first near the main steam engine area.
Gallopers (Galloping Horses) Rule's Galloping Horses were again in attendance. I had previously photographed their Tidman engine close up at the Gloucestershire Rally at South Cerney.
