Lincoln Steam Rally (17th - 18th August, 2013)

After South Cerney, I fully expected to take a break from the major rally circuit. However, Yuehong waxed lyrical when Andy and DanDan Fisher visited us and when they asked about a rally near their home near Mexborough, we quickly found Lincoln some 10 days later. At the time, I hadn't realised that it was a 'big one' (maybe #3 in the calendar) but after they went back, I was given a hard time by Yuehong as, after all, I had always promised to take her to York and we could stay with the Fishers to ease the pressure on the thinner than average wallet. And so we went up for a long weekend, we did the tourist thing for a day in York - yes we had a very enjoyable hour or so in the NRM at the end, enough to convince Yuehong it needed another visit. Of course, we had a quick look at Lincoln and on the journey back along the byways we visited a couple of stately homes (Chatsworth House which we thought a monument to bad taste and crammed with 'tat' and the altogether superior Haddon Hall).
As for the rally itself, we ducked out of the wettish first day and greatly enjoyed the second which had wall to wall sunshine for several hours, although with 100 engines on show, trying to do justice to it was extremely difficult. It's a long way to go and I am sure we shall return but probably not on an annual basis, next year we plan to try one of the Yorkshire rallies instead.
