Marcle Steam Rally (20th - 21st July, 2013)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the seven steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2013 introduction and overall index.

My cunning plan had us down to cycle to the Marcle Rally in 2012, it's just 10 miles from home along gently graded B roads. However, the British weather had other plans and it was cancelled nearly a month beforehand as the ground was completely waterlogged and there was no chance it would dry out. 2013 was so dry that there was no such risk of cancellation although the ground was baked so hard that the steam ploughing was fraught with difficulty. As such things go, it is smaller than average and a little more 'personal', perfect for an introduction. Two of Yuehong's friends were over in the UK, they hired a car and one of the conditions for my acting as unpaid taxi driver was going to Marcle. None of the three ladies had any idea what they would find, but all were knocked out by the experience and Yuehong especially. In fact, the visit was so successful that we went back on the second day for more... And then spent nearly every weekend until mid-September at other rallies.
