Banbury (Bloxham) Steam Rally, (29th - 30th June, 2024) |

|
This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2024 introduction and overall index. We were somewhat disappointed with our visit to Banbury in 2022 but Paul Gilbey found it in much better health in 2023. We were due to go this year, but just over a week ago, our trusty BB developed a coolant leak and there was no way it was going to get put right in time. The last time such a thing happened was in 2022 when instead of visiting the Strumpshaw event, we spent the weekend watching the world go by while cat sitting at our friends' home. At least this time, we were sat at home and a lot of gardening got done instead. So here goes with Paul's 2024 report, he writes: "Here are my photos from the 2024 Banbury Rally. I have included two pictures of the Foster portable, this is the first Foster portable I have seen on the rally field and thought it worthwhile to show both sides. It was a very warm day on Saturday and a very good number of visitors present. Sadly no programme again so no info on the Foster portable unable to attract operators attention. Set up was as usual with engines on the brow of the hill. 3 Showman's engines were located in the Funfair powering some of the rides during the day and evening. with the Foster portable near the entrance on the flat. Prices for food were reasonable and the Hook Norton Beer and Cider was good. Trade stalls were a little disappointing but there was a good turnout of other vehicles and five speedway, longtrack and grasstrack motorcycles. including one from 1929. Another enjoyable and well presented rally." To which I can add that, while 33 full size steamers is good by Banbury standards, I had a publicity email on Wednesday claiming that there would be 40 full size engines present. That represents sloppy management. Choose the page you are interested in and within that, click on a thumbnail for a larger image. Then click again to return to the page. |
