Central Azucarera de La Carlota

Central Azucarera de La Carlota is a large mill to the south of the town of the same name some way south of Bacolod. Although it has had working steam on its 3ft (914mm) gauge system since enthusiasts started coming to Negros in quantity in the early 1970s, it has not generated the photographic record of more popular mills like the Hawaiian-Philippine Company. This probably results from the majority of work having always been done by diesels.

My lasting memory of my January 1998 visit is of arriving past a line up of road trucks stretching about one kilometre back from the mill waiting to deliver their loads of cane. Not surprisingly, we found both steam and the railway itself were barely surviving.
