Working Engines

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). By working engines, I mean steam engines which did more than sit looking beautiful or amble round the main arena to have their pictures taken.

The Tanner's Reunion

Three threshing sets had been set up using surviving equipment from the Tanner family business. Full details of the first two engines are on the General Engines pages.

Steam Threshing

Apart from the Tanner exhibition, there was another threshing machine on display, full details of the engine are on the General Engines pages.

Foster

Saw Benches

Two saw benches were working, full details of the engines are on the General Engines pages.

Steam Ploughing

Three steam ploughing engines were in attendance, Fowlers 2528 and 14257 were at work during my visit with 15441 spare. Full details of the engines are on the Miscellaneous Engines pages.

Stone Crushing

The Shropshire Mines Trust (http://shropshiremines.org.uk/) again put on a demonstration. The pneumatic shovel was by Eimco, the battery locomotive is from BEV, the crusher by Mason and the winch from Waddington and Longbottom. Full details of the engine are on the General Engines pages.

Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies

Gallopers (Galloping Horses)

Ashley's Golden Gallopers were in attendance. The organ Gavioli 46 key organ of about 1880, this year the original engine was back in place after restoration.
