This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for
the overall index for 2024.
I'm again pleased to present Paul Gilbey's pictures of this
small event. Paul writes:
"Here are my photos from Marsworth Steam Rally 2024. I have not been to this small village one day rally for a number of years.
21 steam engines and 1 steam car were present, entry was a modest £8 and was worth every penny. The rally had a great atmosphere
and a very large number of visitors. The selection of engines was varied although
I have seen them all before. The variety of classic cars and trucks was very good.
There was a good selection of food stalls and a beer tent selling locally brewed beer from Tring.
There was a modest number of trade stalls and many local charity and
local organisations had pitches around the main arena that had a large number of tables and
chairs, unfortunately all taken at lunch time. This was a very good little rally."
To which I would add that there seem to be quite a few
good small scale rallies in the 'home counties' to the north of London. So
much so, that half the engines here had been at the Herts County Show, 2
weeks earlier just 30 miles away. In
the past three seasons, Paul has chalked up quite a few engines which have
evaded me, I need to save up my pennies and make it to the revived Old
Warden event which I anticipate most will attend.
