Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show (1st - 2nd July, 2023)
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). I'm pleased to present Paul Gilbey's pictures of this small event which is a pale shadow of its former self, the turnout was an improvement on 2022 but no enthusiast would travel any distance for this.
Paul says "Only 16 full size steam engines and 3 no shows, but there was a programme. This is a steam rally which has seen a big decline in the number of full size steam engines in attendance. In 2011 and 2012 Fifty Two full size engines were listed. Other sections also seemed to be down on numbers. Despite it being cold the number of visitors looked to be good, trade stalls were well represented and prices a little lower than most rallies I have been to this year. Sadly this is a steam rally where steam exhibits are not a major feature and so for the steam enthusiast it is not really worth the effort as very little of interest is to be seen.."
