This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for
the overall index for 2022.
This was a last minute addition to a weekend whose main
attraction was the rally at Masham. Given it was just a few miles off our
route, even though it was likely to produce few engines, it
made for a very pleasant break on what was a long journey back home to
Gloucestershire.
We enjoyed our afternoon here, arriving at about 14.00 as
what I was told was the organising committee were getting their picture
taken. Certainly, something similar is now on their Facebook page.

Later, as the sun was about to come out properly for
the first time, my request for an extra circuit of the ring after the
'Boundary Blast' was kindly granted, But there was no way I was going to get
the engines turned so they were facing the sun. Sometimes this happens when
a rally field has a slope but this time it was effectively flat. If
organisers can't work out this sort of thing then they shouldn't be
surprised that their publicity pictures are so poor.

The rally is limited by the size of its site,
but it made the most of it and there were regular ring events and plenty of
stalls. As the venue is an alpaca farm, the other star event was an alpaca
'Olympics'... Given that Ashby is midway between Elvaston and Rempstone, as
anticipated, 60% of the exhibits had been at either or both, but there was
one new engine for me.
