Ackworth Steam Rally, (16th - 17th July, 2022) |

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the overall index for 2022. This was a last minute addition to a weekend whose main attraction was the rally at Masham. Given it was just a few miles off our return journey, even though it was likely to produce very few engines, it made for a pleasant break on what was a way back home to Gloucestershire. The rally was easy to find as described on the web as 'Next to the Ackworth Water Tower' on the A628 south of Pontefract. I had found a few pictures and some video on the web which showed half a dozen engines but not much else. In the event it looked more like a car boot sale with a fraction of the other attractions found in a typical rally. I found Mtoto at the top of the field and tracked down the other threes steamers at the bottom of the field along with rather more miniatures. The owners said that normally there would have been more exhibits but they were nor sure what had happened this year, but perhaps I should have gone to Sheffield the previous month, which indeed had been my intention. As you will see, the light was not good, not that it greatly mattered as the sun would have been behind all the engines. Of slight interest, also present was an old Aveling Barford diesel roller. In the light of the above, not surprisingly, I didn't stay very long, I was glad to have one 'new engine'. General Engines Ploughing Engine Steam Roller Diesel Roller
