This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events
occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by
using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful
of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could
probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for
the overall 2021 index.
I had attended the 2018 event which was memorable only for
the amount of rain that came down, before, during and after it. It's not the
easiest of sites for photography and I wasn't too unhappy to opt out when
the forecast predicted it would be gloomy all day, especially as I knew that
there was a good chance that Paul Gilbey would do the job for me... Klondyke Mill is the base of the North
Staffs and Cheshire Traction Engine Club which has control of three
engines but a number of others are based there and still more pitch up for
their public events.
So many thanks (again) to Paul Gilbey for his photographs.
I really must get back here soon.
It was good that rallies were able to take place at all in
2021 but I found the atmosphere not surprisingly rather subdued. I was
actually amazed to see that I had seen as many as 14 'new' engines when I
added them up. Of course if I had been to Stotfold.there would have been 4
more and if I had been here then 4 more.
Details below were taken from previous personal observation and also David Collidge's Steam Scenes site http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/
which continues to be the most reliable source of information.
