This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for
the overall index for 2014.
Abergavenny is a 'small rally' based in Bailey Park in the
heart of the town. For the second day, we begged a lift off my son who was
down for the weekend but had only a short visit as he had to get
back home. The park was a sea of mud from recent rain and most of the road
engines were parked up on a tree lined drive, none was able to move except
for the road run which they had performed as is traditional on the previous
morning. Nevertheless, other exhibitors were not seriously affected, the
atmosphere was good and the car park was full by the time we left. We'd
certainly like to give it a try another time although necessarily most of
the steam engines were familiar. I believe normally there would be a saw
bench and threshing machines demonstrated.
