Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2013 |

|
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Shrewsbury index and click here for the overall index. By working engines, I mean steam engines which did more than sit looking beautiful or amble round the main arena to have their pictures taken. The one that got away was the Foster on the thresher, it alternated with a vintage tractor and I was never around at the right time for the very occasional performance. Next year it will have a high priority.
Steam Sawing Two saw benches were working, shaded by trees for most of the day when the sun shone.
Steam Ploughing Three steam ploughing engines were in attendance, Fowlers 14257 and 15333 were at work on the Monday.
Stone Crushing The Shropshire Mines Trust (http://shropshiremines.org.uk/) put on a demonstration. The pneumatic shovel was by Elmco, the battery locomotive is from BEV, the crusher by Mason and the winch from Waddington and Longbottom.
Gallopers (Galloping Horses) Ashley's Golden Gallopers were in attendance. The organ Gavioli 46 key organ of about 1880.
