This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click
here for the Welland index and click here for
the overall index.
As usual, most of the showman's engines were parked up
next to the fairground area where many were hooked up to the power
supply of the various rides. Four more were next to organs elsewhere, making
a grand total of 25 again. Conventional photography is not easy, apart from
the usual issues, the engines are parked close together, as the sun sinks in
the afternoon, the shadows of the adjacent engine encroach before much of
the upper area is properly lit. Hence the inclusion of some pictures taken
in later low light for a change, an additional benefit is that many of these
engines are regulars at Welland and this is a chance to view from the
opposite side. .
