The International Steam Pages

Torbay Steam Fair (3rd - 5th August, 2018)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2018 introduction and overall index.

After a three year gap, it was time to revisit Torbay. This is a medium / small show that, like Much Marcle, punches above its weight as it has a very strong working area. Learning from our previous experiences, we left at the crack of dawn (06.30) on the Sunday and hence we were at the show gate more or less as it opened at 09.30 with a '2018 normal' almost cloudless day ahead. Going home in the late afternoon look rather longer, the traffic queue on the M5 from Weston-Super-Mare necessitating a diversion through Bristol to keep us moving.

The number of engines was similar to 2015, but only 50% had been present then which I regard as a healthy churn  The working area was as good as before, but in the heat, there were few takers for the run up 'The Hill', I can't say I was sorry to have an excuse not to go up there too. In any case, the site is not suitable for much movement which means taking pictures at midday associated with the parade or static when the light is much better. The Sunday crowd was not large, probably the heat had something to do with it but I was told the car park was almost full on the Saturday.
