The International Steam Pages

Stoke Row Steam Rally, (13th - 14th June, 2026)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2026 introduction and overall index.

This was our fifth visit to Stoke Row and as ever it was a well presented show. The previous time was in 2023 and my memory is such these days that I had had to look up when it was. It's an easy run up the M4 and the only problem was the traffic in Pangbourne where, inconveniently,  it was the annual fete day...

By the time we arrived, everything including the weather was warming up and I soon established that there were 32 road engines present. I anticipated that most gricers would have been at the High Weald Working Weekend, an attractive event if ever there was one, but that is for next year as we've just had two long journeys across southern England where roads and traffic are anything but well matched. In the event, I managed to get a good set of photographs and this time my notebook records were 100% good. I knew that I had to be more careful than I had been at Tinkers Park and Hollycombe as there would be no backup if my record turned out to be incomplete.

By 15.00 I was ready to call it a day and afterwards, as before, we took the gentle route home along the A417 through a succession of small market towns which are largely 'unspoiled by progress'. The weather this year has been better 'balanced' which means the garden is rocketing. With Yuehong's knee operation in 2025, I was working more or less single handed in it. This year, I have at least one cataract operation looming up and that carries a 'no gardening' order which I could have done without. So it's Yuehong's turn for long hours in the garden. We have a weekend off coming, after which it's Banbury/Bloxham.
