South Cerney Steam Rally (2nd - 4th August, 2013) |

|
This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the seven steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2013 introduction and overall index. What do you do when your lady says "I want more!". Simple, you go to your favourite search engine and find another rally coming soon to a venue near home. And how do you justify hiring a car for the occasion? Actually, it was not difficult, it turned out that the cost was affordable and a bargain 3 day season ticket meant that we could commute daily from home in just an hour. After all, big birthdays don't come around too often and on the Sunday I was to become an official OAP. The Gloucestershire Steam Extravaganza was to be our first large rally with some 80 engines in attendance. It's on the site of an old airfield with some tarred surfaces which means that 'steam ploughing' is out of the question. It was a huge site, though, and a particular feature was a large 'playpen' where the engines took it in turn to go through their paces. The best weather by far was the sparsely attended Friday, sadly by Sunday, normally the busiest day, there was rain forecast and although it arrived late, it badly affected the attendance.
