Netley Marsh Steam Rally (22nd - 24th July, 2022)

Back in 2016, we did a Sunday trip to Netley Marsh after attending our local Much Marcle rally on the Saturday. Since when Marcle has become a much less attractive proposition and we prioritised the postponed Netley Marsh 50th in 2022, choosing to visit on the Sunday when the roads were likely to be less busy and the weather forecast was better.
The show was rewarded with a bumper number of visitors who were handled with the show's customary efficiency. It's probably the South Coast's most accessible rally for us but as its churn seems quite low (50% of 2016's engines attended) we'll need to wait a while before returning, 100 mile trips are not cheap any more even though little 'BB' usually manages 60 mpg with my careful driving. We left home under leaden skies, by Cirencester blue sky was appearing and within half an hour of our arrival we were treated to wall-to-wall sunshine.
The showground was parched, the grass was bleached and the colours were consequently not of the best although it meant the lower parts of the engines were quite well lit. Going home, the reverse happened and we found our garden enjoying some much needed rainfall. It was a very good day out, we now have two weeks with our local shows at Welland and South Cerney.
