Abbey Hill Steam Rally (29th April - 2nd May, 2022) |

|
This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2022 introduction and overall index. Our other visits to Abbey Hill (Yeovil) were in 2014 (21 conventional steam road engines on show) and in 2019 (35), this time the count was 25. The decrease was largely accounted for by the 2019 number being swelled by an unusually large number of visiting steam wagons. There had been just 2 'new' engines in 2019 and there was just 1 this time. I hadn't expected much as we've long collected nearly all the low hanging fruit in this part of the world. In practice, the visit was an almost free bonus as it was scarcely off the route home from Trevithick Day in Camborne. Sadly, while Saturday had been dry and bright here as in Camborne, Sunday was absolutely dire with thick cloud and constant drizzle throughout my necessarily short visit. I assume I saw all the engines as there was no movement allowed at the time but I have known engines at this show pop out for a spin on local roads... I haven't wasted time trying to enhance the pictures, if you want to know what they look like in the sunshine, just click one of the links to their pictures at other rallies! People tend not to cover steam rollers when it rains, but for showman's engines then it's another matter altogether! Choose the page you are interested in and within that, click on a thumbnail for a larger image. Then click again to return to the page. |
