A Preserved Garrett Portable in Malaysia

Click here for the "Surviving Steam Road Engines" index page.

Some time back, Michael Pass stumbled on a preserved Garrett portable steam engine near Ubon Ratchathani. Now Pete Newsome has found another one at the entrance of the 'De Baron Resort' in Kuah, on Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia.

The pictures speak for themselves but the notice plumbs the depths of ignorance as far as machines like this are concerned. Most likely it operated a sawmill although long ago such engines operated in tin mines too.

We never heard back from Derek Rayner's expert, if anyone reading this can help with identification, please do get in touch.
