Stationary Steam in Jamaica

For some pictures, please see Thomas Kautzor's report of a 2014 visit.

At Worthy Park, Robert Clarke has a mill which uses modern equipment but he maintains the following:

1.. Manufacturer - Harvey Engineering Co. Ltd., Glasgow
2.. Date of Manufacture - 1911
3.. Engine No. 2766
4.. Engine has Two (2) Fly Wheels - dia. 6 feet
5.. Operating RPM - 60
6.. Steam PSI - 150
7.. Application - Drives a Harvey Vacuum Pump

I have retained this engine purely for historical purposes, however, if any of my modern electrically driven Graham Rotary Vacuum Pumps were to fail, this unit could be put back into immediate service to supply Vacuum to Pans for Sugar boiling.

Further, we have kept as an exhibit another Horizontal Reciprocating Steam Engine.

1.. Manufacturer - Harvey Engineering Co. Ltd., Glasgow
2.. Date of Manufacturer 1929
3.. Engine No. 3394
4.. Engine has One (1) Fly Wheel - dia. 10 ft.
5.. Operating RPM - 70
6.. Steam PSI 150
7.. Former Application - Driving a Blairs Vacuum Pump

The 1929 Engine above was purchased from the Hamden Sugar Factory in St. James, Jamaica in the late 1940's and remained in service as an Evaporator Vacuum Pump until 1989.
