Thanks to Margaret Hacking and Chris Hodrien for forwarding these pictures
from Ashish Nagda of Gadag, Karnataka.
The old 'cotton baler' is said to date from 1868 and presumably the associated steam engine is of the same vintage. Certainly by comparison with what I have seen in Burma, I wouldn't question that.
The 'modern' machine is of course a Ruston oil engine (173072/1934) which has probably not moved since it arrived new in India.
