Steam in China, March 2000

News from Tonghua/Hunjiang. There are still 42 locos running in this area, these are the steam hauled trains observed recently by a Chinese tour guide representative: (but note this is much more than other European visitors have see - check out Florian Menius's March 2000 report for instance. Michael Rhodes guide reckoned that the number of active locos was more likely to be only about 20 in their recent visit).

08:00 (Passenger train), 09:30, 11:30, 12:20, 13:20, 16:50 (passenger train);

Mar 06: Tonghua/ErdaoJiang (afternoon visit only)
12:20, 12:40, 15:20, 15:40 (Passenger train);

Mar 07: Erdaojiang/Guyauna line (morning visit only)
07:40 (Passenger train), 08:20, 10:30, 12;20, 12:40;

Mar 13: Hunjiang/Dayangcha line
09:10, 11:00, 11:40, 14:00, 16:10, 16:40 (passenger train);

Mar 17: Dayangcha/Huijiang line
08:40, 09:30, 11:40, 13:10, 13:50, 14:00, 15:50 (passenger train), 16:30, 17:30;

Mar 18: east of Hunjiang Station
09:30, 10:40 (branch line to Power station every half an hour), 11:30, 12:10, 12:30, 14;45, 14:20, 14:30, many returns from the station to the Power Station till dusk! Again Hunjiang/Dayangcha line watching fron Hunjiang Station, busy hours at afternoon time, 15:45, Hunjiang/Dayangcha, passenger train;

Mar 27: again to the Station, many trains to Dayangcha
