Beitai - Tipping the Slag |

Click here to return to the main report. First the slag cars are reversed into the tipping area, a large (hot) ball is used to break the crust. The locomotive is SY 1077.
Wreathed in steam, the locomotive (SY 0825) backs the cars into the tipping ponds:
The amount of steam generated makes the main tipping almost unphotographable.
The train draws forward and the last of the slag is dropped off:
This needs less quenching - most of it done by a man wielding a large hose:
