48 was constructed by Werskpoor (417/1916). Deli Spoorweg Mij operated the railways around Medan in North Sumatra and its locomotives were never renumbered into the national system. This 2-8-4 had two outside cylinders 455 x 480 mm with driving wheel diameter of 1000 mm. Boiler pressure was 12.0 kg/cm2, grate area 2.3 m2 with a heating surface of 112.1 m2 and a superheater surface of 30.4 m2. Overall weight was 60.0 tons with 36.4 tons available for adhesion. 48 is preserved at Taman Mini near Jakarta. The last of its class active by some way, its regular home was Tebing Tinggi.
