Although it carries a Beyer Peacock plate (many B12 were constructed by them), B1239 is nominally from Werkspoor (94/1903). It was originally Semarang Joana Stoomtram Mij 54. These 0-4-0 tram locos had two inside cylinders 217 x 356 mm with wheel diameter of 914 mm. Boiler pressure was 12.0 kg/cm2, grate area 0.5 m2 with a heating surface of 16.7 m2. Overall weight was 13.5 tons. In service they were seen burning variously coal and wood, the only place where they were recorded since 1970 was working the Surabaya steam tram. B1239 was originally preserved outside the old Kota station where this picture was taken, but has since been moved to outside Pasar Turi station. This photograph is courtesy of Rob Dickinson (1976).
