El Tren del Fin del Mundo (The Train at the End of the World) - Part 7

This is Shaun McMahon's latest report (23rd November 2001): Click here for the first part (May 1999), the second part (10th July 1999), the third part (February 2000), the fourth part (8th March 2000), the fifth part (20th April 2000), the sixth part (24th September 2001) and the eighth part (5th March 2003). Also check out the railway's website.

"The photos taken on 18th November 2001 show FCAF locomotive No. 2 during final stages of assembly in the workshops at Ushuaia. Note the raised boiler, cab and newly fitted Lempor exhaust. A new rotary burner has been fitted to this engine. Steam trials are planned to begin on 29th November should no major problems arise in the meantime. The locomotive will appear this season in an all over red livery until detail finishing off and repainting in lined blue livery takes place during May 2002. The water tanks have been enlarged with a new separate fuel tank fitted inside the rear bunker.

We are suffering a couple of problems such as the supply of 4" flexible steam pipes, they will probably arrive during the next week. Though this locomotive will remain fleet No. 2 the name will be changed from Nora to 'Julio A. Roca' which is more in keeping with the development of the railway at this moment in time."
