The Fairy Queen

I am not sure (27th June 2007) what the current status is of the Fairy Queen and its excursions....

A new season of 2004 excursions with the Fairy Queen was announced (20th December 2003):

"The Fairy Queen, hauled by the world's oldest running steam locomotive holding the Guinness World Record and the National Tourism Award, is all set to roll magnificently once again on the tracks from Delhi to Alwar with the first trip of the current tourist season on Saturday 27th December 2003. There will be a total of six round trips between December 2003 and March 2004. The two-day-one-night package takes steam aficionados and wildlife lovers from Delhi to the Tiger Reserve in Sariska with an overnight stay on twin sharing basis in the RTDC Hotel Tiger Den. Nestling in the rocky Aravalli Hills, the Hotel Tiger Den is also quite close to the Wildlife Tiger Sanctuary. The Fairy Queen hauls an AC chair car coach accommodating 60 tourists with an attached pantry car for on-board catering services to the delight of the holidaymakers. As an added attraction, the coach has a beautiful lounge in the front, which provides a full view of the Fairy Queen while running. The trip is brimming with amusement and recreation provided by a memorable revival of a chugging train journey supplemented with cultural programmes, theme dinner at the Hotel, jeep safari to the Tiger sanctuary providing a much needed break from the monotony and humdrumness of the modern life. The package tariff has been reduced to Rs. 7,500/US $165 (Rs. 3,750/US $ 83 for a child) per passenger from the earlier Rs. 10,000/US $ 200 (Rs. 5,000/US $100 for a child). Bookings can be made via the Director, National Rail Museum, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi-110021 Ph. 91-11-26881816, 26880939, Fax: 91-11-26880804, E-mail: smehranrm@hotmail.com "

The dates given are 14th/28th February, 13th March 2004. The package will be re-offered starting in October 2004 (added 2nd March 2004). Those dates are given as 23rd October, 13th/27th November, 11th/25th December 2004, 22nd January, 12th/26th February 2005.
