This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for
the overall index for 2015.
Abergavenny is a 'small rally' based in Bailey Park in the
heart of the town. As in 2014, we had only a brief visit in the morning as
we were 'double booked', as apparently were some of the engines, there being
just 11 this year, well down on the rally in its heyday We had again
missed the road run on the Sunday as it was raining at home at the time (we
live barely 30 miles away). It's an 'intimate' show. but we got the distinct
feeling that the steam engines were considered 'hard work' as far as the
organisers were concerned. We had to be gone before 12.00 by which time the
engines were mainly still warming up. It seemed there would have been a saw
bench working later, probably worked by Fowler 9225.
Details below were taken from the engines and also David Collidge's Steam Scenes site http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/
which continues to be the most reliable source of information.
