The International Steam Pages

Cornish Steam and Country Fair, (14th - 16th August, 2015)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2015 introduction and overall index.

This is another event that has felt the need to add 'Country Fair' or similar to its title. It's something I can live with if it brings the punters in and the core of the event remains unchanged as seems to have happened successfully here. We had eyed this event for a while but as it is a long way from home and requires at least one overnight stay, it was a late decision to go when a sunny Saturday appeared out of what had been a consistently gloomy forecast. Indeed the Thursday was so wet it would have wiped out a conventional 'farm field' show and we drove down through rain on the Friday but the Stithians showground took it in its stride - albeit that the stone in the steam engine yard was not designed with photographers in mind as you will see, a small price to pay. The show has had mixed reports in recent years, however, with on the evidence of our eyes and ears that is probably history. This was the 60th annual event and hugely enjoyable with goodly crop of local engines 'not previously seen'. The engines were kept busy hauling visitors and there was a very good working area. Sadly, with the number of engines present and quite a lot of cloud around, there was no time to get the video camera out.

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website (http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/) is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.
