Strumpshaw Steam Rally (28th - 30th May, 2016)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2016 introduction and overall index.

Strumpshaw represented a major expedition for us, it's over 200 miles from home and we were very glad to have David Longman's hospitality mid way. It was a very pleasant traditional medium sized rally where the steam engines were the centre of attention. It was excellent value as the price of admission included a visit to their major steam engine museum. Despite the very average weather forecast, the low cloud blowing in from the North Sea on 28th May had dissipated by midday and conditions were extremely pleasant. Given we were 100 miles from any other rally we had been to before, not surprisingly, a much higher than average proportion of engines were 'not seen before'. Since we visited the area on a Saturday, the Burrell Museum at Thetford was open and we called in on our way through.

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website (http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/) is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.
