The International Steam Pages

Shrewsbury Steam Rally (30th - 31st August, 2015)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2015 introduction and overall index.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" sums up the Onslow Park experience, conservatism rules. The great unwashed who pay the bills accept that it is the mixture as before with some nice special extras and take the horrendous queues to get into the site, more of the same to pay and yet more of the same to get out. And so it should and will remain until they get bored and take their custom elsewhere, by which time it will be too late. If we hadn't had a long distance steam freak visitor and given the weather forecast, we would have ducked out this year. As it was we came in on the A458 from the west, waved our E-tickets and stayed longer than we wanted after the bar closed and dodged the worst of it. As a creature of habit, I think I photographed just about every steam exhibit even if, in the days of paid for film, I wouldn't have wasted my money. If you have enjoyed all our days in the sun in 2015, you may want to look away.

However, I do have to congratulate the organisers for the special Sentinel show, I missed the road run on Saturday owing to family commitments but I doubt as many Sentinel products have been seen together ever in the preservation era, unless someone had an excuse for a gathering at the Great Dorset. The two small tractors represented something very special. Will we be back next year? It will need a very good weather forecast indeed...

I haven't included a separate working engines page this year as there was almost nothing new, which to me is rather sad. Choose the page you are interested in and within that, click on a thumbnail for a larger image. Then click again to return to the page.

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website (http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/) is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.
