Marcle Steam Rally (18th - 19th July, 2015)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2015 introduction and overall index.

Exactly two years ago I inveigled Yuehong and two of her friends into attending the Marcle Rally as part of their introduction to British culture. They were 'over the moon' at what they found and we went back the next day for more. Since when we have broken the bank (almost) to attend some 40 of these and similar such events which I have described on these pages.

Marcle was blessed with two days of glorious weather although a late change to the forecast seemed to have deterred some Sunday visitors or maybe they had all been on the Saturday when it was heaving. It's not just that it was our first and nearest rally, others tell me that they similarly love the atmosphere. They don't have a huge number of engines and quite a lot are Aveling and Porter rollers, but the saw benches, threshing and above all the steam ploughing mean the rally punches well above its weight. The reports are accessible below this picture.

Again this year Marcle did not produce a rally programme, I have to say that after 2013's effort it was not missed. Engine details are by observation backed up by David Collidge's Steam Scenes site which has consistently proved to be the most reliable source of information.
